A truly exceptional lady doll. This face is transitional. I see more than just a whisper of the fully formed adult face Jumeau. Truthfully, if the nose were a bit more aquiline and the face a bit longer, she would be the very thing! In fact, her decoration is identical to the stroke to the very rare example pictured in the first edition of The Doll as Art
by Stuart Holbrook [ pg. 53 ] and maybe earlier as she is paler and the painting more tentative in tone and color. But the idea is in the making. She is a haunting presence. She wears her original gown and I dispaired that the white did not compliment her. She needed blue, but how to do that and not remove this lovely garment? Well, the inspiration was not mine, but nevertheless a gorgeous hooded cape of 19th c. silk velvet was constructed to solve the problem. A shepherd's staff would be the making of this presentation!! She is perfect in every way. The extraordinary head and shoulder plate are free from any damage. She has a very tiny discoloration on the white of her left eye. The body is in excellent antique condition. Her pate is original but not the wig. Her shoes are simply amazing and deserve a listing all by themselves. These are actually 19th c. handmade fashion boots and if you want to see better pictures of them, I will be happy to send them on. The boots have cobbled flat heels with 14 grommets on each boot with their original laces and reach high up her lower leg. Underneath the lovely Swiss dot organdy gown is an exquisite trained petticoat with matching bloomers and close fitting chemise. She is very large at 26" tall. Believe me when I tell you this doll is a show stopper and the pictures do not do her justice.. $ 13,500.00. Inquire about Very Early 26-inch Jumeau Fashion with Rare Face.
